I have been directing, designing, and animating short films and commercials of all kinds (drawn, stop-motion, digital mixed-media) since graduating from Emily Carr University in 2000. I have a special interest in character design, blending handmade and digital techniques, and exploring environmental themes for audiences of all ages.
My independent films have screened at hundreds of festivals and won many top awards including the Annecy Public Prize, Best Short Film Award at Cinanima Portugal, CromaFest Mexico, and Italy's VIEW conference, and Best Children's Film Award at Animafest Zagreb and Earthvision Japan, and finalist for the UNICEF prize at the Japan Prize for Education al Media. I have been awarded grants from the Ontario and Toronto Arts Councils, and the NFB.
Multiple commercial awards include Broadcast Design Awards, OneShow Design, Applied Arts, Art Director's Club, NY Festivals, Lotus, Worldfest, and more. Recently I was a finalist for TBrandStudio's "The Selects" animation program.
I have taught Character Design at Sheridan College's animation program, and the Toronto Animated Image Society. I've lectured about my work at Cutout Fest in Mexico, SVA in New York, OCAD University, and the Taipei Film Festival.
For over 15 years I was a full-time director at Head Gear Animation in Toronto. Recently I've opened up my practice to other freelance projects, including teaching and illustration. Please contact me if you'd like to collaborate.
